Meeting- Jan 21

We are having issues with section four's laziness. Even in 6th grade, they don't throw out their lunch garbage. We are thinking of having another station behind it all. We voted, and putting another compost, recycling, and trash station is hopefully going to happen. Anna and Garrett are going to talk to the right people about that.
We are also going to change our school colors to the same as Boynton. We will have a compromise. We voted against changing them to red and gold, like the high school, and decided that we should just have the same colors as Boynton. The color isn't decided yet, and nor does Boynton know, but the superintendent thought that it would be a good idea.

January 7th, 2011 meeting

We're thinking that there should be some sort of outdoor winter fest.
  • Snowball Throwing
  • Snowmen
  • Winter Games
  • Snowflakes
  • Fake Snow
  • Sledding outside
We could build a snowman or two a day after a snow day or something and have a snowball throwing contest, trying to knock down a snowman (kind of like dunk day)

We were also thinking some sort of Teacher Appreciation Day- but as a surprise for the teacher.

There is now a SUGGESTION BOX!!!  January is now going to be the Suggestion Month. Come up with good ideas for making the school a better place. Be a leader and think of a serious idea- really, don't be stupid. Do you want the hats back? Doors on the stalls? No homework on Fridays? It's your school. The suggestion box will be put in the main office.

Our Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be Friday January 7th for OFFICERS ONLY.

Meeting- December 10th

We're still looking for things to do this winter.

On December 23 we are giving out candy to the school.

Every homebase is also going to make a snowflake or snowman (winter theme, not holiday) to hang on the tree in the 7th and 8th grade Science Hallway. This is a paper maple, so it won't be like a christmas tree or even a holiday tree, just a normal tree dressed up for winter.

We are collecting toys, dolls, stuffed animals, etc. to donate to a hospital for kids with cancer such as St.Jude's and other places. We will be collecting from now until December 22nd.

We will also be giving candy out on December 23rd.

Meeting- December 4th

We need to do something for the wintery holidays.

People seem to not be able to get the idea of "Christmas" out of their mind. There are more religions than Christianity, and turning something from a "Christmas Tree" to a "Winter Tree" doesn't make that much of a difference.

Well, as long as it isn't a Christmas tree in the first place. One of the ideas was to decorate the tree already up (in the 7th+8th grade hallway) in a wintery fashion. This was also decided to be too religious.

Winter Party
Snowflake Day
Candy Canes
Dreidel Competition
Winter Tree
New Years Party
Winter Solstice
Winter Cookies
Gingerbread houses
Snowmen Decorating
Apple Cider brought to homebase
Fudge
Hot Cocoa
Snow Games/ Festival

Those are the ideas we came up with at the meeting. We are going to talk about more options, and what we're going to do, at the next meeting.

Remember, we aren't allowed to give or sell food, because it competes with the cafeteria. Giving away hot chocolate in the morning is on the verge of not allowed. Selling cookies, or fudge, or cocoa at LUNCH, directly cheats the school of money without us even realizing it.

We'll vote next time, and decide what we want to do for our winter events.

Notes from the Meeting- November 19, 2010

There is an Alternative Gift Fair, on December 4th. There is set up on December 3rd, and working at it is on the 4th. Talk to Ms. Porcheddu-Ion (her room is in the upstairs B wing) if you are interested.

Also, the can drive is coming up. For our drive happening over the weekend at our grocery stores. We made posters for each drive. They need to say "Donate a Can" "DeWitt Middle School Can Drive" "Biggest donator in the county" "DONATE A CAN", etc. Make sure they understand that they just need to buy a can while they're in, and just drop it off on their way out. DONATE A CAN. People, we also need more cans per homebase. Seriously, dude, we don't have enough. I know my homebase utterly fails. If you are below 100 cans, you should go out and by some more. Danke sehr. That's German, for thank you very much. Mr. Kaltman is giving a reward to every homebase that gets over 200 cans! You know you want some donuts!

WE think that Mr. Snell's homebase is number one, but we need an exact count for each homebase. Mr. Kaltman needs volunteers during 4,5, and 6th period on Monday. Go find Mr. Kaltman if you would like to help.

NEXT MEETING: After Thanksgiving, on Friday December 3rd.

11.10.10- Notes from the meeting

Attendance taken. Where are all the homebase representatives?!?! We aren't having a meeting this friday, so don't come then. If you didn't know there was a meeting today, you should've checked the board, or here, on the last post.

Today in Student Council we talked about the can drive. We are going to go around to the classrooms today, during homebase, and count the cans that each homebase has.

THIS WEEKEND, we are planning on doing something on Saturday in the P&C on Ellis Hollow Road. There was a sheet passed around, and if you were interested in doing this next Saturday, you should've put your name and your phone number on the sheet of paper so that Anna or Garrett can call you with more details.

One of the most important things going on is the can drive. We need to figure out a way to get people more excited about bringing cans.

After that, we talked about campaign promises. People promised they would try to do things like get stalls in the bathrooms, or get more field trips. These are things that we should try to fulfill.

THE NEXT MEETING IS NEXT FRIDAY. NOT TWO DAYS FROM NOW. A WEEK AND TWO DAYS FROM NOW. Thank you :)

11.3.10 Meeting

We are selling only bottles and bracelets so far- we're going to buy bags when we have more money.

Can Drive- We should probably set up stations at Wegman's and P&C.

The PTA want to cover the story on their website. The can drive, student council, etc. The can drive has been going on for 30 years and we're the single biggest contributor to the salvation army. It's student council's job to be the "cheerleaders" of this event- and keep everyone riled up and wanting to contribute. We want to go for 4500. The most we got ever was 8000.
Student Council will stay behind and help load the trucks (after the can ceremony.)

If you are looking for a way to donate cans to the salvation army, you can go door to door, you can bring stuff from home, and you could buy tons and tons of cans from grocery stores. As long as you win! Or the school does...

Next meeting: next WEDNESDAY. Everyone, not just officers.
